I just had an interesting talk with Jim Webb of Hillsville, VA about his new book "Notes, Drawings, Observations of Rifle Gun Triggers" (also contains photo's, drawings etc about trigger guards, Locks, Fittings of Mountain rifles in the southern Appalachia ) The book is a nicely done paper back with 210 + pages.  (other options below)

It sounds like this book is a Godsend for folks that enjoy making their own parts for southern mountain rifles. Jim said the price is a more than he expected but I think it should easily be worth the price of $30 plus $2.50 postage. He printed 500 copies of this style. He also had 100 printed in color and those are $60 plus $2.50 postage. He also had 50 made up in color with leather bound hard covers for $80.00.

Jim also sells his "Hunting Pouches, Powder Horns and Accourtments of the Southern Appalachians" with 200+ pages for $25 plus $2.50 postage.

Jim does not own a computer and since he has trouble hearing he only does business by mail order. His mailing address is:

333 Webb Dr.

Tell him you heard about the books on AmericanLongRifles.org

I got mine today.  Mr. Webb even included a book on gun worms.   I spent two hours reading them when I should have been getting my lunch.   It looks like a lifetime of accumulated knowledge.  Well worth the money!

I received mine last week.  As Mark said, it is a collection of sketches and notes that would take a lifetime to accumulate.  For $30 it is a great investment if you are a serious student of details.  I would suggest getting the B&W version over the color unless you are getting it for collectors reasons.
Cheers,
Ken

P.S.  One correction to Dennis's original post.  Unless I missed something (I'm still drooling through the info) there aren't photographs.  Only sketches.

Got my package today. Great gathering of information about southern rifles and such. Good clear sketches depicting the right amount of detail.

The more I read the more I realize what is there.  I can tell this will be a book a year from now I'll pick up and something new will make sense.

Ordered my book today. Look forward to getting the information he put down on paper. Sounds very interesting and no doubt will find it useful.

A big thanks to Mr. Webb for taking the time and putting forth the effort to keep the craft alive.

If Angus and Packdog likes it, then that's good enough for me.

Take care,

Got  my copy today. I splurged and got the leather bound edition. It's worth every penny--it's beautiful and the information is a treasure trove. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Webb but he is certainly a true gentleman--he enclosed a little handwritten note saying that he hoped I enjoyed the book and that I could return it for a full refund if I wasn't completely satisfied! Needless to sat it's a keeper and I hope he sells every copy he printed.   Dan

Yup. It must have taken a great deal of patience and devotion to produce this book. The word "awesome" gets bandied about all too frequently these days, but this book truly is awesome!

I picked up a copy of Jim's book Saturday at the 18th Century gathering north of Frederick, Maryland.  It's noted in the front of the book that it was compiled over a ten year period of Jim making observations and sketching the triggers and hardware of Southern rifles.  The sketches are concise and the artwork that he drew on every page is reminiscent of the artwork found on his bags.  I couldn't put it down once I started reading.  This book easily warrants shelf space on the reference books with those of Kauffman and Shumway.
