Inlay ??

I know this is a stupid newbie question to you guys, but how do you guys get your inlays to stay "in"

I have seen bands with like material pins go through both sides and then soldered/brazed etc to the inlay material to hide the pins.

How do inlays such as circles, stars etc that have no mirror on the oppisite side stay attatched?

For silver inlays I use tapered silver nails. Inlet, drill, nail down. The tapered nails will form the hole in the soft inlay to a taper as they are driven in and they will not pull through the inlay. I hammer the nails to help form the taper this makes them harder than the inlay in most cases.

Brass or steel will work the same way though harder material may need the holes to be tapered or countersunk before nailing.
In steel small wood screws are an option with a lightly countersuck hole then file off the screw head so it becomes mostly invisible.

That makes sense. Simple enough in idea anyways. Practice practice...

Ok, what about wire inlays for things such as vines? Maybe a V with the most open part carved into the wood so as to form a taper, then lightly hammer in soft wire that would fill in the taper and lock itself in?
