I finished the main part of the bag today but need to find some small rings to finish the game tethers. Have some 1" wide cotton web for the inner layer of the strap ordered. T C Albert's admonishment that this is a LOT of sewing is right on.

Great looking bag Dennis. You can make your own rings if you have a lathe and some brass rod. Just YouTube making jump rings.

Any ability to make your own rings? Some round stock and a welder will do the trick.

Make the rings by forming them around a piece of pipe, from brazing rod.

Thanks for the kudos on the bag and the suggestions for making rings. The max OD of the rings is 1/2" or the thongs will not be removable. Maybe needs new thinking.

I started keeping the leg skins from my last five moose as a byproduct of removing the tendons for bowmaking and these were tanned. I had planned to make mukluks with them but never got to it. Since I didn't have deer skins with dew claws the moose got used.

There are some really smart people on this forum that can answer your questions but I'm not one of them. My experience is limited pretty much to what you see in my postings.

I have a copy of the AKAH 1908 catalog reprint and that has pages of German hunting bags. Although 'more modern' versions of the basic bag are in the catalog it doesn't appear that the fundamentals have changed much for many years. That is very useful for ideas and dimensions although I scaled my down a bit. Marc Hamel made a bag for me several years ago that is inspired by these style bags and the really high quality of the design and workmanship has been inspiration for what I try to do. Having that in hand and being able to study the details has helped keep the aimed for standard high.

Hopefully some of these artists will chime in and point anyone with an interest to other sources of information.
