Rev War Attribution - Almost as a joke - "Just my opinion"

So I am not breaking any legal bounds here - this is my limited opinion:

There is not one single thing on this gun correct to a British Made Martial Musket of any period. Not one single thing correct about it being a "1730 Kings Land Pattern Musket" or first pattern as they are called. There is no evidence of a 1730 pattern ever being used in the Rev War (though I guess it's possible) because 45 years had passed since the 1730 pattern was standardized. There are less than 20 know 1730 muskets in existence. There was never a British Martial Musket issued with a 49" barrel. The lock carving is 100% wrong in all respects. Basically there is not one thing about that musket that is correct in any way. Now the description says "Variations exist in Continental US reworks using British parts for service in Continental Army during the revolution" - so legally maybe that covers everything - even every part - I don't know?

If that gun was included in an article on "Revolutionary War Used Weapons" I hope there is more context.

Hi,
The lock is from a pattern 1777 Bess or later and the butt plate is pattern 1769 at the earliest.  That gives you the earliest possible dates for the gun. It was cobbled together from old parts and give the late date for the lock, I suspect it was made for some militia unit after the Rev War.  The side plate is a rustic copy.

I don't have a dog in this race but often when I see something misrepresented I have to message the seller that they have it all wrong. The honest sellers are glad to have this information, the ones that don't care get huffy and defensive.

The latest was a gal on the Facebook Market Place selling a "Dalton" flint point for big bucks. Her point wasn't a Dalton, rare or worth 1 tenth of what she was asking. I told her I had collected for years in my youth and knew my points. I sent her a picture of a real Dalton point and she withdrew her ad.
