More importantly, where is the donor horn for the lower bands?!  You may have to make 2 piece bands to fit that thing.  And a 20 year old maple tree trunk for the plug!!!

 Davec2, Osprey, I picked it up at the CLA show some years ago. My thinking was to make a LARGE banded horn out of it to use as a sign, it does have a great shape. I was going to make bands out of Walnut, the tip out of Holly and glue up some 2+" Maple until I got what I needed for a Bee Hive butt. Just haven't done it. Unfortunately I do not know who I got it from and I haven't seen them at the show since.

 Daniel, My understanding is that it comes from a cow found in Africa.

I think for the beehive I would look at bowl turning wood suppliers for something really fancy, or keep an eye on neighbors firewood piles for something cool to turn!

If horn bands, very few. Finding a horn large enough to supply bands is the problem. Your wood idea will solve that problem. I picked up two of the same breed of cattle at CLA 3-4 years ago. One was made a simple horn for local club to use for listing member’s names. The second horn I’ve done for them in the last 20 years. The remaining horn I trimmed and only have a 4 1/2” plug to fill. Will wait to see how your wood bands work before I finish it. Looking forward to it.

 I'm not going to make a sign out of it. I'm going to cut it up and flatten most of it out.
