Chisels?

I was surfing on Wood Carvers supply and saw Hand Forged Chisels by Mastercarver.  The price for each chisel seems really good.  Any one have these in their collection of tools?  How do you like them or don't.  Thanks

Jason, I have no idea about how those tools perform. I prefer Pfiel, or antique tools when I can get 'em.

If they are reasonable, you should try one out. I picked up some chinese tools somewhere, and they look similar. The steel is very good on mine. High carbon, hold a great edge.

I haven't used these either, sorry.  It's interesting that all sizes are the same price, regardless of sweep or width, 3mm to 40mm??  How can they do that?

They probably just average the cost out to keep things simple.

I mainly use 3 straight chisels for most of my inletting.  One is about 3/16" wide, maybe a tiny bit less, and the other about 1/2".  Then I use one about 3/32" wide for underlug, thimble, key and trigger slots, etc.

I used to buy all sorts of chisels, antique ones etc, some nice Pfiel ones, but I like my homemade ones made from Swiss files the best.  I have some big gouges I never do use anymore, preferring the drawknife, spokeshave and planes for removal of a lot of wood.

I'll buy parting tools though I have made them also.

Some of my favorite tools are home made.....by Rich Pierce! Hahaha.

The parting tools are a specialty. But you can learn to make almost any tool you need for this business.
