Soddy Daisy in progress (update II)
« on: March 05, 2022, 05:53:12 AM »
I started this Soddy back in February for a Tennessee guy. This is my first walnut stocked rifle in twenty years or so. Not sure about what if any stain will be used on it yet. I plan on playing around with some scrap pieces and see what I like.

Very nice! That walnut is beautiful as is. I would think it wouldn’t need any staining, just a protective finish. That’s a really long barrel, what caliber?

Great looking rifle! I love how the grain flows around the cheek piece!

Really nice work Brian.  Nice to see how well you followed all the subtle quirks these Soddy rifles have.  Especially the butt plate. Your customer. Should be more than pleased..!!

Looking good Brian.
I like your knack for doing plain but still distinctive pieces.

Nice work,

Thanks guys. The barrel is a Rice squirrel profile in .32 and the length is 46" or 48" can't remember right now.

Looks like it will be a delightful rifle to shoot.
So nice! Doubt it will need ANY stain.

Really nice looking, and as someone has already mentioned I also like how the grain wraps around the cheek rest.

We Airedales look at things like that.  Very nifty the way the growth rings encircle that cheek rest.

Didn't realize Soddy Daisey's had those sharp corners and edges - darn nice rifle gun!

I have the springs made for the patch box and everything installed. Just need to get the nose cap made and fitted.

This gun would represent the absolute pinnacle of the Soddy Daisy school. Way better than the old Soddy guns that I have had the privilege to handle or study.

I took a few photos  of the Soddy today. It has some finish on it how and plan on having it done this coming week. Since some of the Soddy's I seen have a iron and pewter nose cap I added the detail on this one.
