Help.....Hollis and sheath side by side percussion shotgun
« on: April 02, 2022, 08:34:04 PM »
I inherited a Hollis and sheath side by side percussion shotgun.  It's in rough condition needs a few things rod is missing hammers don't function correctly and the trigger is broke.  Really want to get it fixed up but don't want to depreciate it's value. Any suggestions

It doesn't have much value.  Fix away.

It has no value other than a family heirloom. Hang it on the wall and enjoy it.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Good advice.I have owned several H&S double guns like this one and used them for squirrel getters when I was in Middle School.

Ok kind of what I was finding out just wanted to make sure to make sure my local gunsmith was not pulling my leg he offered me 250 for it after he told me it was not worth anything but I never said I was going to sell it.  It's value is more to me because it's been in family for many generations.  Thanks for the information.

If it wasn't a family gun I would have taken the $250 and run. ;D

My first ML was an H&S 12 gauge dbl that I bought through the mail from Charles Moore in NY.  I paid $115 for it (1970).  I hunted with it until the rrod pipes fell off and I taped them back on and continued until the bottom ribs fell off.  I sent it back to England and had the barrels separated, restruck and re-soldered.  When I got it back, I put it together and it's still sitting on the wall unfired.  Having the work done cost 3 times what I paid for the gun.  Go figure!  I spent most of my money on fast w***n and slow horses.  The rest, I wasted on muzzleloaders.  James "Sparkleberry Jim" Levy

Not long ago I gave away two similar B'ham percussion shotguns to a friend who was interested in fixing & refinishing them. He's a very competent guy so they may come out nice and I'd never get to them.

Doesn’t look like an American long rifle to me
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

I'd be surprised if it did since it's a English shotgun
