Turning tools for horn.

Looking to turn some ramrod tips from horn. I have a little woodturning experience, but not enough to judge whether gouges or scrapers would work best for horn?

Any other gotchas for turning horn that I should be aware of?

Gouges for roughing out, then what ever works for you. I step down to smaller gouges for most shaping work. A light touch with a very sharp tool will give you a near finished surface. You can always sand using smaller grits to the level you want. Horn turns nicely so use what ever tools you feel comfortable with.

If you enjoy the smell of burning hair you'll love turning horn. It's not overpowering and you get used to it. But it is a part of it. And the women folk may make a comment or two when you get in from the shop.
