Refinished Soddy
« on: June 25, 2022, 06:12:44 PM »
I wasn't happy with my recently finished Soddy.  It just didn't feel right I but moved on to the next project anyway.  It set in the corner bugging the crud out of me until I decided to do something even if I screwed it up so I changed the brown metal finish to grey with a little patina and reworked the wood finish to give it a little age too.  I like it better now so I thought I would repost a few pics.

Cheers,
Ken

Much, Much better. Then of course your talking to the guy who's motto is" Patina and age the rifle twice as much as you think you should and you will have patinaed and aged half as much as you should have"! Just ask my builder Don Bruton who really believes I am at least half a bubble from level.

Thanks for the kind words. guys.  I'm glad I took the time to rework it.  It seems to have a little more character now.

Kevin,

Thanks.  It's one that Chris Hirsh sells.  Here's a link to a discussion regarding the new flintcock and specifics on which one I used.  Great service from Chris I might add.

Cheers,
Ken

Thanks guys,  I know it's a personal preference but I'm happier.

Adding a little patina to newly built rifle surely makes you appreciate to ability and nerves that Mike, Ian and Eric have for taking a new rifle and turning it into something that realistically looks it was built 200 years ago.
