Need help on 2 old horns

I picked up a couple old horns and I'm looking for any info I can get. I know nothing about them except I assume the larger one possibly came from Virginia because of the screw plug in the butt plug. If you look at the pic of the knob on the smaller horn, there's a round hole with a dowel broke off in it. Could that have been a fill hole with another stopper, thru the knob? Any input would be great.
