new Skwerl Thumper
« on: July 31, 2022, 04:13:01 PM »
I got this finished on Tuesday. It is kind of Yorkish, mostly because the carving behind the cheek piece was inspired by a Frederick Sells rifle in the library.
I originally wanted to do RCA 94 by George Schroyer, but besides the photos in RCA #2, I couldn't find much else.
So I decided to use things that I had in hand.
I used a 38-inch .40 cal. Getz B weight barrel, an L&R Durrs Egg, and a Walter Cain single set trigger. I had three York style trigger guards, and used the one I had bought off Keith Lisle, since it fit the Cain trigger the best. The rest of the furniture was stuff in my parts drawer. The wood I acquired from Troy Sweeny. It was a blank most people would not have bought because it was far from perfect. But I saw a rifle inside it.
At any rate it is done.

It's certainly not a bad looking gun.
Me too would be pleased with such a gun

Nice work there Guido. That’s a fair looking piece of wood to me. Should make you a nice offhand rifle.

Especially gratifying to see a 'reject' blank turned into a beautiful rifle. Very well done, as usual, Guido.
