How To do sling stud and front sling loop

Hello. does anyone have a guide to do the sling hookups for a rifle.

I don't have a guide but just either dovetail or solder another lug on the UNDERSIDE of your barrel and make sure the loop of the sling stirrup lands on the ramrod pipe. You can either build your stirrup or buy one from MBS. Drill the #4 screw hole carefully through the stock and lug and it's done! You can use a simple button or another narrow stirrup for the rear. You can also build or purchase it also. Be VERY careful drilling and measuring the front one. Not much room for error. Bob

On my half stock  Hawken elk rifles, the front  sling attachment  requires a grrove filed  into the bbl side of the rib. The sling holder is made from a coat hanger and the inside of    narrow end {a little wider than the rib} fits into the groove. The hi temp silver solder joint is at the narrow part that fits into the groove. When the front sling holder is close to the bbl, it lands on the RR pipe so it doesn't obstruct the RR. This arrangement requires a removeable rib.

The rear sling holder is also made from a coathanger and a pin w/ a horizontal hole  is riveted to the `1/8 " thick toeplate which is screwed down w/ 3 fairly long screws.

Hawken rifles are fairly heavy and this sling  attachnent has withstood many hrs of lugging these heavy  rifles uo and down the Rockies. ......Fred

This is the set-up on my fowler.  Lug soldered to barrel, placed between pipes.  Sling doens't interfere with anything.  Rear is  button stud.

I agree with Long Ear. I do like the swivel to land on the ram rod pipe so it is never a concern when replacing the ram rod. The swivel can never get in the way while replacing the ram rod.

 The front sling swivel should be placed so when the gun is standing on its butt the sling swivel rests on the ramrod pipe. Otherwise its hard to re-insert the ramrod after loading.
