Gunmakers Fair-Montana Historical Gunmakers Guild
« on: August 21, 2022, 08:51:42 PM »
On August 12th-14th, the Montana Historical Gunmakers Guild held it's annual gunmakers fair. Attendance has been down the last 2 years, so we decided to post some photos to raise interest. One advantage to a small event is small class size.

Here's a list of this year's events. Unfortunately a death in Nathan's family prevented him from presenting his class.

These photos are from day 1 of the fair...

All photos courtesy of Terry Jo Mann of Muzzleloader Builders Supply.

Engraving class

Tool sharpening

Scratch stock tools

Pouring a pewter muzzlecap

Day 2 of the fair...

Touchmark making class

Dan Phariss fitting a breech plug

Dave Rase demonstrating stock shaping techniques

We have BBQ's on Friday and Saturday evenings. On Saturday, Randy Cochran functions as our auctioneer for items donated by members. The auction is held well after Dave Rase (as official beer foreman) calls "beer 'o clock".

Some of the guns on display...

The Montana Historical Gunmakers Guild has members from Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Washington. We also have people come down from British Columbia to attend our fair (unfortunately not this year). Our annual gunmakers fair is held the 2nd weekend in August. We also have meetings on the 2nd Saturday of each month (January through June). The meetings are in-person, but if you can't physically attend, they are also connected via Zoom. If anyone is interested in our organization they can contact me by private message through this forum, by phone, or email...

Looks like a good event this year, and some really nice guns. I'd like to try and make it next year.
Who made the matchlock?

Dave Rase made both of the matchlocks that were on display. He posted photos to the forum a couple of weeks ago. I'll look for them in a few minutes and post the link.

We missed you too Justin.
