« on: August 30, 2022, 08:09:04 PM »
Hi, i have a rifle in nice condition. Percussion with a Josh Golcher lock. Barrel is 43 inches long and deeply rifled i guess about 40 caliber. Barrel is signed J M or S M. I am sure some of you experts can give me some ideas on it.

Just a tidbit of info for this often misconstrued name.  You will note that the H sits higher above the Jos.  As such, it is an abbreviation for Joseph.

Looks to me like a Morrison gun and a nice one. Like Samuel. He was a very creative builder and made standard rifles, (like this one), side hammer guns and even a Roman candle side hammer rifle. Some of his guns are quite ornate and all typify the best of the upper Susq' School. Thank you for  bringing it in for us to admire.

Thanks for the information. If you know any more about this maker, I would like to know more.
