Looks like 'J Dell' but the vowel is lighter than the rest. Anyone familiar?
Original flint, smooth rifle with patchbox an PA ish trigger guard.

The vowel looks like an "e" to me. there appears to be a slight inward curl at the top making into an "e" to me Would love to see the rifle

According to Lee Good, Joshua Dall's name was on a rifle dated 1840.

Could it an 'o'? There was 'J. Doll' who made guns in York County, PA. Please provide more photos of the gun, lock, patchbox, and left side. Probably have a more positive ID with that information.

At this time I cannot provide any further photos. If I manage to acquire it, I certainly will. Very nice and unique original flint.
Upon further examination I feel that it is DOLL.

Well, I hope that you succeed in purchasing this rifle. Selfish reasons of course as you will bring it in to show it around. Doll was a good maker and there are not too many of his pieces around. Whisker shows one or two in his York books. You might want to look at those for some information. Best of luck!

I appreciate the lead on information. I do not have Whisker's PA books, as PA is not my area of collecting interest, but I will see what I can find. Seeing a patchbox and trigger guard of one of his rifles would help a great deal.
And - of course if I can manage to obtain it I will put photos here and bring it to any shows or meetings I attend for review by my peers.
