ALR Museum Gunsmith: Upper Susquehana School ( Sidehammer)
« on: December 26, 2009, 10:16:43 PM »
Day 7:The Museum and Library Committee plans a 12 Day Holiday Spectacular celebrating the First Anniversary of the ALR Museum and Library and  the "Community of Collectors" efforts to promote the study and collection of the "Kentucky Longrifle". To date we have exhibited more than 250 guns; probably the largest and most varied collection of longrifle exhibits ever presented publicly. This was only accomplished because of the support of the collecting community; we thank them and wish them the best for the coming years. We hope others will join in in the future.

The pictures of this gun though displayed before in the ALR Antique Guns have been kindly donated to the Museum for future study. Though the gun is signed on the barrel flat, dispute remains as to whether this is a Long or Laudenslager or even another maker. It does nicely demonstrate a sidehammer or "mule ear" lock and firing system.

Here is the URL for the Museum exhibit:

Also here is included the URL to the original discussion about this gun:

Please help us identify the maker. It is rather unusual for a signed gun to go  unattributed but the letters seem to have confused everyone as to what they actually are. Please add your comments and guesses as a "reply here.
