Help Identifying a Lock
« on: November 23, 2022, 07:34:03 PM »
I have an old lock that I bought with the intentions of making a fowler around. I'm hoping that someone on here can shed some light on where this was made and an approximate time frame.

The Austrians used a small double eagle marking on the tail of the lock plate, and the date omitted the first numeral. Thus your flintlock would be 1858, rather late for a spark thrower. I'm not saying you have an Austrian lock, but perhaps an avenue to pursue. Pictured below is the lock from a Model 1854 Austrian Lorenz dated [1]860.
