I was asked to make this box as the Presidents Award for this years Contemporary Longrifle Assoc. President's Display.This years theme was swords!!!!

 When closed does the top overlap the bottom? With a hinge that has to be tricky to get right.

The top and the bottom are the same size.Another piece is set inside that covers the opening and then some then aligns the two halves.Many better quality period tobacco/snuff boxes were done this way I think as that makes them more airtight and  keep the tobacco/snuff from drying out.Can't have dry tobaccy now can we....... The photo below of a similar box I made a while back may show it a little better....
