hunting tripod or monopod
«

I am in the market for a new tripod or monopod to help me steady a rifle while standing. Any of you guys using a commercially made one that you like or don't like?
Looking for something that is not too heavy but works great in a hunting situation.
Not interested in what you use that you have made. I have a few sets of shooting sticks that I have made and use, that is not what I am looking for.
Thanks

Last year I bought a Primos "Gen 3" tripod for shooting game from a ground blind. Light easy to carry and super easy to deploy in any configuration. Still use my primitive shooting sticks when my old shaky hands demand it at club shoots.
Happy New Year,
Mike

I like this one! Simply adjust elevation with the power window button with this device straddling your window glass. Sights on target and let er rip. Be sure to have a ready supply of Windex and paper towels!!

In British Columbia, if you get caught shooting out of your truck window, you will likely lose your rifle and your truck, your hunting privileges and pay a huge fine...serious no-no.

It is illegal to shoot from a road in many states. Maybe not such a great idea if you shoot flintlock.

You guys are easily lead a stray. I am not interested in shooting from a window of truck. You want to talk about that, start a thread.
Where I will be there will not be a truck window.
Stoner, you owe me a beer next time I see you for stirring the pot.

Thanks for the info on the Primos sticks. Those are the ones I am considering buying and was hoping someone had some experience with them.

I also use a Primos trigger stick, but a single leg with one of their footpads on the bottom of the stick. Easily adjustable height adjustment with the trigger and usable both on the ground and in a treestand. I believe these also come in 2 different basic heights.

Thanks, I have been considering the monopod for the simplicity of it. My old bipod got trashed when it would not work at 18 below.
Going on a musk ox and caribou hunt in August in the Baker Lake area Nunavut Canada and I need something a little more portable than a pickup with a window.
Unfortunately, I dont think a ML is an option. Not been able to find a source of BP up there and cant fly with it.

Close friend of mine who still guides, uses a 2 (or 3) leg set of Primos trigger sticks for his clients- 2 legs I think. They also come in a 1 leg variety.
He likes them himself (& his wife) for longer shots on elk or deer.

I tried a single, but it was wobbly. It will work if you lean it against a tree or post for more support.

Hunting sticks will be easier to carry with me then a tree or a fence post or a pickup.
My last set was a bipod and I liked them. I did not realize that they made a trigger stick in a bipod. Might be exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks

I have a mono and don't care for it at all. Probably will be a shortage of things to lean one one.
My grandson has a set that I watched in use on an antelope hunt and had my granddaughter use at the range. They worked very well for them.
However I don't know what brand or model they were but I'll find out. Nice thing about them is the V rest rotates.
