Was the stock inlet for the butt cap already, and if so how close was it to final fit! Thanks

You did  a GREAT job on that pistol, Bob, and glad that you are having a lot of fun with it.

Couple years back, I built one of Pedersoli's "Bounty" pistols, with that long 16+" barrel.  It was for my son, and he said he would shoot it two handed - the left hand forward under the barrel.  So, I checkered the butt, and a 4" portion of the forestock.  Looked pretty nifty.  Pedersoli's wood did not have a lot of figure in it, but it was close-grained, and finished well.  I used a fairly hard finish on it, can't recall, but believe it was a spar varnish.  I did that so I could cut the checkering in and have it hold good.  I shot a rabbit with it at about 25 yards.

Metequa, yes the but cap section was pre-carved, as were the side rail sections, but a lot of fitting had to be done to get it on.

Thanks Craig- the kit wasnt as hard as I initially thought it would be. I was dreading all that metal to wood fitting to be done, but just take it slowly and being patient really helped.
That long barrel pistol  is actually well balanced- I think the pommel contributes greatly to that. It holds quite well.

Bob,

Was the side plate inlet?  Just wondering if there would be other options?

Yes- very good ignition for a drilled hole. Nice shot - with bird shot?

Oh just saw several questions and comments so to answer, yup the side plate is inlet about half way in. Also I made that awesome shot with bird shot 😎 but don’t tell anyone 😉!
Its a really well balanced handgun and for its size it’s really easy to hold and aim. I almost want to build another one!
