You will note that on the Masonic Square and Compass there is no "G" within the center. The "G", which denotes geometry and not God as is commonly thought, was not adopted as part of the symbol until 1832 by the Grand Lodge of England and the following year by the American Grand Lodge. Here in the USA the "G" was slow to catch on, custom, usage and tradition being deeply ingrained in Freemasonry, and it was well up into the late 1800's before it was commonly in use, most especially in the Southern States.
Also, if you use a 10 power hand lens and look at the photo it appears that the left leg of the compass is resting over the left arm of the square and the right leg of the compass is beneath the right arm of the square. This is as it should be, though it's difficult to say for sure this is the case on this photo.
