The toeplate is easy to make...it's really just a mushroom headed shaped inlay. When inletting, some space underneath the toeplate  end  is req'd to allow the pushrod to be  pushed against the catch. One screw is  needed to attach. If a BC LR has a Pbox release, a toeplate similar to this one is req'd......along w/ the release mechanism.

Shown is  the  toeplate  and the release inside the Pbox cavity. .....Fred

Locating the "head" of the toeplate  can sometimes be a problem so I drill the pushrod hole first and then center the "mushroom" head over the hole and make the rest of the toeplate......Fred

Yip:  installing the toe plate first might lead to issues with where the pushrod needs to go.  It needs to be far enough forward not to interfere with the lower buttplate screw, is all.

Terry....here's a pic of a BC toeplate surrounded by a brass inlay. thought I'd do something different, but it's not HC. The actual toeplate has a "mushroom" end which is HC.

Yip:  study the pictures I posted of a Buck'sCo. box in the opened position.  There is no set length for anything here.  I usually made the catch spring first and set it into the end grain of the butt under the buttplate.  When I make the catch and silver solder it to the patchbox lid, I do not cut the notch in it until the spring catch is installed.  Then I black the peg with felt pen, close the lid and see where the catch on the spring has stopped.  Then I cut a very fine nick in the peg and try it again.  I repeat this process until the catch spring holds the lid shut, without any extra travel so there is no slop.

Here is a diagram of the possible way to do the  push rod to the toe plate.

virtual dice roller

You can just draw a straight line from the center of the mushroom to the spring catch and skip doing the off set push rod. I have done it both ways and they both work fine.

I used a 1/4 inch straight round rod with the one toeplate release button that I made several years ago. I think I drilled a 5/16 inch clearance hole for the rod to go through.
