That is amazing work. I wish you had a picture of the inside of the lock mortise.

Were you able (or try really hard) to blend that in to match the rest of the gun? How did it turn out? Did you go to the extent of trying to actually age (rot) the wood or just stain/paint/etc?

That is fantastic - Saving a beautiful gun like that with that quality of work should never be something to "cover up" by any seller - although I know many do - sigh. The hours and skill to do that restoration would (or should not) be cheap in dollar amounts anyway.

Bravo!!!

Thank you BradBrownBess, I appreciate the compliment. Yes I aged the inside of the lock mortise and it turned out well, I was pleased with the result. I’m my own toughest critic, so saying I was happy with the result isn’t a common occurrence with me. It’s difficult to explain how I match and color the finish on the repaired sections, like I said, I always make the new match the old, so every restoration is different. The finishing process is as important as the woodwork, so I try many different techniques and always try to layer the finish to give it depth. On this particular gun, if I didn’t tell you what I did to it, you wouldn’t be able to tell it had been worked on, that’s always my goal.
