Decorating a button sling stud
« on: January 09, 2023, 09:53:28 AM »
Actually I'm building a jaeger rifle from a kit.
The kit is nearly finished (I will post some pictures separetely)
Time to focus on some details.
Starting with a plain button sling stud I filed a flower ornament with a set of needle files. It just took a few strokes with a triangular and a round file.
I'm surprised how easy some good effects can be achieved. (I do such work for the first time)

Nicely done. You’ve got a good eye and a steady hand.

Awesome has an antique look I think will enhance the rest of your build.

Thank you all for the kind words.
I decided to decorate all main screws this way.

It does look very nice.  It will have the additional benefit of gripping the leather of the sling too when you are trying to put the sling slot over the stud, making the re-installation of the sling easier and faster.  I would like to see some finish applied, ie:  case hardened and burnished, fire blued, browned, etc.  Otherwise, it will rust, or at least it would on my rifle.

Nice job Christian!  Little details like that really dress up a rifle.
