I’ll bet you could get that CNC machine to do that!!

It will probably happen in time.  Not necessarily easy to get there, but nothing worthwhile seems to be!

Ok, what tools would I need to try this ?
I really want mine carved, nothing fancy, just something like those pictures and I guess you are not doing that for people Jim, so I have to learn on my own how to do this.  I am a sawdust maker for the last 40 years, but never ever tried carving.  I would like to learn but if I mess up the stock, I will really be upset and not sure the wife would let me buy a second one :)  My woodsrunner won't be here for a few months, but I never did fully finish the Mountain rifle, I assembled it and went shooting (quite a few times) and never took it back apart to actually finish it, guess I could try that one, after trying on some chunks of maple I have in the shop.  So what tools do you recommend ?

Well, I only used a few tools on this.  Mostly just a v-gouge, some flat chisels and a skey chisel.  So not a lot of tools are required with the approach I used.  It would be really hard to describe the whole process here.  We do offer a carving booklet that would help with learning the process.

Jim,  Would you please share a photo of the under side of the lock molding.  Thanks,  Fred

Sorry, I don't have any good photos of this handy.  The stock is in the process of finishing right now and when I get this done I'll post a picture of this.

Very nice to see your clean carving style again Jim. I really like your choice for the tang carving for the Woodsrunner profile.  An improvement on the original and in my mind a good element for a VA gun.

Thanks for the pictures. I have sketched ideas for what I want to try on my Woodsrunner stock but have had trouble with the area behind the cheek piece. Your treatment of this area helps!

Another masterpiece, composed by Maestro Kibler!

That's about the level of ornamentation I plan for my Woodsrunner.  Will it be executed to the same level of proficiency?  Likely not, but it'll be plenty fun trying.

Hey there.  I'd been doing some carving on one of our "Woodsrunner" kits recently and thought it might give some ideas to others.  It's pretty simple, but adds a lot to the overall appeal of the rifle.  Any questions, let me know.

Jim, I am assembling one of your Colonial rifle kits and I would like to add this detail to the patch box cover. I have no real experience with carving although I am trying to work on that. I have done mouldings on the stock and forearm which turned out ok. Would you care to share the technique and tools to do the lines on the patch box? I have tried to figure out how to make the the little hook at the end and, well, let's just say my results haven't been pretty.

Here’s a You Tube video of Mike Brooks and Wayne Estes doing exactly this on a Kibler Colonial. I found it very useful:
