Bsarp,
Thank you fir bringing that design point to my attention.  I was not aware of it.  If you go back to post # 11, you will see that the line does pass through the center of the screw on the original and is just above the center on mine.  It will be a simple matter to adjust the comb line such a small amount, and it might also help resolve the issue with the buttplate.
One question: If I am reading correctly, you suggest a smaller (tighter) radius at the nose of the comb.  Is that what you intended to say, or did you mean a larger (more open) radius?

For what it's worth, I think the perception of the buttplate angle being off is caused by the photograph itself: there is a shadow toward the back end of the heel that, combined with the ever so slight downward camera angle on that 3D shape, creates the illusion of it not being in line.

Looking really nice! I agree that a little reduction at the end of the breech plug tang will make a smoother transition.

Thanks silky, you might well be correct.  I intend to slightly adjust the comb line per Bsharp's suggestion and then take a close look at the buttplate situation.

Well, the day has started out well.  My objective was to lower the nose of the comb per Bsharp's suggestion and then tackle whatever needed to be done with the buttplate.  Pleasant surprise - the comb already lines up with the center of the screw.  Actually, the nose is about 1/32" low, but I expect the rear to be a tad lower after I re-fit the plate.

Wow, some folks around here have a pretty sharp eye!  The filing job on the extension was not my best work.  It was not straight front to rear or side to side and the two sides were not the same distance down from the top flat.  Having said that, the maximum high-to-low deviation was only about 0.012".  It is straight and even now and I would stake my life on it ;D.  Time to re-fit the plate.

I would appreciate a critique or critiques of my post # 17 since I would like avoid going from the frying pan to the fire.

I don’t have critique to add, but to echo Rich’s sentiments in an earlier post… seeing the pictures with the reference lines and angles drawn in really helps those of us who are less experienced put everyone’s comments in context and really see it. Thank you for that.

Thanks,
I have studied Mark's fine rifle and have his templates and layout guide.  It was a pleasure taking another look at it.  There are architectural difference but it is an excellent study piece.  Thanks for mentioning it
