Original Powder Flask

Finally got an original antique powder flask that I was looking for for a long time and that fits my german hunting gear.

A very nice flask Monty!
Rather a rare type too.   Good it has a covered cap/measure, very practical.
I don't like to see flasks with open tops being carried upright, as there is always a slight chance of a spark getting into the top.
Yours is very safe. Lovely flask!

I like the "roe" deer toes on your flap!  Very traditional!

I like this flask very much. It seems to be made of lanthorn and brass, and is - as I think - a typical continental flask. Rather good condition too.

I got a similar flask, but mine has got  "some spider-cracks", which seems to be a lanthorn problem. Lanthorn is quite sensitive to shocks.

That's really nice. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but I seldom see original, non-metal-bodied flasks in such good condition.

The gun is a looker as well, I might add.

These powder flasks made of horn are a very interesting part of your great collection, Feltwad. There are flasks with a big variety of  chargers.  The 2 flasks with the knuckle-joint charger are not easy to find. Are the pre-1800?

The most  types of material used pre 1800 for continental powder flasks are  horn  but I have seen them in pewter, leather was common along with brass and copper with the odd one in wood .The ones you mentioned were from 1830-50.
