Side by side flinter barrel change?
« on: June 12, 2023, 10:17:35 PM »
A number of years ago, I had a side by side flinter built for me. The barrels ended up at 26”. I had asked the builder if it would be possible to build another set of longer barrels for the gun. He said the cost would be close to what I paid for the entire gun. At the time, I wasn’t sure if he was telling me this because he didn’t feel like doing it. So, my question to those that know…is this true? Do you build the gun around the barrels or the barrels around the gun? A set of 30” barrels would be nice to have, but not if the price doesn’t make sense.
Thanks,
Tom

I would think it would be a major undertaking. Depending on stock style getting the new barrels 30 inch tapper to fit in/on  the 26 inch tapper stock and regulated to what ever distance you wanted.  :-\

You were told the truth Tom. Making a barrel set to match the stock (and locks) would be a major undertaking and cost BIG $. Yes, a double gun is built around the barrels.
