Back in the 60s and 70s and even now, people would decide to build a gun without any reference material or prior knowledge about gun building, guns like the one above is what they turned out, they were happy with them and I am sure these guns served them well.
There are a lot of members on these boards that don't know how a gun should be shaped and chime in with "great job", "outstanding work" and such when one of the beginners posts his first build. By the way, my first build was truly awful, I had all the reference material and still left way too much wood on the stock.
A guy posted one the other day that was shaped as square as a 2X4 from end to end and got a lot of encouragement on how great his work was from the above mentioned guys. I kept my mouth shut.
