Newbie - "a" barrel kits?
« on: December 01, 2009, 07:44:32 AM »
Just finished my first kit build after a few errors from a track bucks county kit.

Looking to build a light, long barrel, small caliber rifle..........are there any kits out there that are for an "A" profile swamped barrel 42" or longer that you guys would recommend ?

Also, there seems to be a limited availability of .32 or .36 barrels, who might have them in stock?

Not quite ready to build from a blank.

Check with Stonewall Creek Outfitters. Seems to me he had a good supply of small caliber barrels on hand as well as some pre-carves with OR without lock inlets.

Why not try a precarved stock. Not quite a kit and not quite a blank. Try www.knobmountainmuzzleloading.com

If you like the Track kit that you completed then they do offer their Bivens Lancaster and their Haines Lancaster with A weight barrels however the Haines is a 38 inch barrel. So far the only A weight barrel I have used was 36 cal X 38 inches long. Made into a really light squirrel gun. Have you thought about working from a blank? It opens up the possibilities.

We can run our York kit in an 42" "A" weight barrel.  It is a special order so it may take a little extra time to get it, but I've run 4 or 5 of them this year already.  Calibers in a Rice "A" are 32 and, don't hold me to it, but I believe 36.

My experience with the York kit is that it is a nice one. I recommend it.

Barbie is correct. I have an "A" profile Rice 44" .36 and it shoots great.

I too very much like the York rifle from Barbie. I got it from her at Dixon's. It is a 40cal though, but it will be perfect for my grandson. Remmember, buy the best, only cry once.

Jim Klein has a .40 B weight Peter Berry kit that is a beauty. first quality. I have one in .50 that weighs less that 7 lbs.  give him a call, he may be able to run one in A weight for you.   http://www.jklongrifles.com/BerryKits.html
