builder ID ?
« on: August 22, 2023, 11:12:12 PM »
I have this old rifle that I believe was first a flinter, of the early 19th century.  It's pretty rough now but appears to have once been a decent piece with both engraving as well as some carving.
There are no names or writing that I can see.  Barrel seems to have been cut a couple times?

I think you are right about it being a flintlock.  It has the feather loops under the cheek rest,  and the style appears to be from an early time period.  Somebody posted a rifle with a very similar trigger guard recently,  and I'm sure someone will recognize that patchbox. Wait a while and someone who knows will chime in.
Nice old gun.

Kind of York-ish maybe?  Not my area of specialty but that's the first thing that came to mind.
Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government!
