Any knife show will have tons of the stuff for sale.  Call K&G sales at 800 972 1192 or knifeandgun.com.  They are a nice couple running their  mom and pop business.  Also have a good selection of Grobet brand files in all sizes which I have found to be reasonably priced and quite good.

Thanks a million, Bookie. The deer that I kill here in Virginia are not big enough to do anything with horn wise and the mature ones that I have killed over the years I just had to mount for the den. I would really appreciate the antler, Send me your mailing address and I will forward whatever postage money you need in the form of a cashiers check or money order.

Thanks again,

Bart

Folks, I hope I'm not taking this topic too far afield and apologize ahead of time if I am.

Back in the late 70's, the Department of Fish and Game did a rather large raid at Friendship.  They came heavy through Sutlers' Row, the Primitive area an the Flea Market area.  For some reason, I wasn't at the shoot when it happened, but close friends were.

They said you couldn't sell white tail deer antler without having the recorded deer tag for each piece of antler.  Has that changed?

Also, I seem to recall Sambar stag was outlawed for many years.  Has this now changed?

I'm probably out of date on these things and I would appreciate any information anyone has on these questions.

The ownership of indigenous deer species parts (i.e. whitetail, mule, etc.) is dependent on the state so it's best to check your state game laws as they vary.

Sambar stag was never outlawed in the US - it was India who banned the export, that ban has been relaxed some so that it is much more avalable, but it's still often pricey for the good stuff, on the other hand what is now considered the good stuff is the popcorn and other gnarly stuff, which isn't as fitting for PC stuff, so the PC stuff is more reasonable in price.

BTW - the period Sambar stag was heavily soaked in Potassium permanganate as a bug control measure - so if you want the color to match than that's what to use.........to keep the piece looking good neutralize the PP

Chuck,

Thank you so much for that info.  Glad to hear Sambar Stag is available again.  Also appreciate the info on the PP.
