Bridger Mountain Men matches
« on: October 10, 2023, 12:18:33 AM »
Bridger Mountain Men run about 10 matches a year.
One of our members, Dennis, has created quite a group of full sized or near it, plywood animals with AR500 gongs installed.
we run a wood walk type match. Here is some info from the last one, which was a 2 day affair. These are currently held in the shadow of the Continental Divide a few miles South of I-90 using the Whitehall, MT exit.

Wes on the Buffalo range. He also made all the trophies

Mike and his trophies. He cut us some slack sat put the matches  and served as score keeper.

We had two lady shooters. One was a new shooter using Dean's 32 cal Kibler SMR fopr a just a few shots.
Mike won the match in July (August was called off due to dry conditions). But his trophies were not done so they were awarded at this match. He shot the July match clean.
Results for the Buffalo match:
1. Dennis       21 points
2. Dan P.       18
3. Kevin        17
4. Wes          16

Trail Walk:
1. Dennis        22
2. Kevin          21
3.Tyler            21 (lost the tie breaker)
4. Wes            18

Pistol:
1. Dennis         11
2. Dan P.          11 (lost tie breaker)
3. Wes               8
4. Bruce             8 (lost tie breaker)
The Scores include points for dress complete period dress adds 3 points.
We had 9 shooters plus the young Lady who only shot about 4-5 targets.
Now Kevin may have to make her a rifle.
Pistol match is fired at the closer targets. Since we have about 4-5 that would be "challenging" for a pistol.

Dennis swept the field and I should have used the English sporting rifle in both matches it seems.
Wes is the host from summer matches and we thank him for his hospitality.

Looks like fun.  What were the ranges to the targets?

The far ones(Mtn Goats) are up hill and 100+ most are in the 50-60 yard range but some require shooting through forks in trees and such. Its fairly easy really. We have one small gong that is out past the goats. We try to not make it too tough or too easy. The goal is to have fun.

Those look like a lot of fun!

Certainly does look like fun.
The animal targets remind me of the Claresholm  Alberta Longbow Safari.

Thanks for posting this! It would be fun to shoot that setup.
And the trophies are very nice.
