can someone tell me who can make me a 2-bore 48'' barrel for a punt gun i am building.

Welcome to the forum!

The barrel wants to weigh about 48 pounds, and to get anything out of it wants to be a good bit longer than 48 inches.
I'd say you need about a 7 foot barrel.

It’s basically a cannon barrel. Few barrel makers have the equipment to bore and turn something that size. Some other custom shop might be able to. Maybe there are some military ordinance barrels out there that could be adapted.

I would suggest checking the regulations on owning a non-antique punt gun, which is technically a long barreled canon. Some states have regulations that restrict that sort of thing.

Just out of curiosity; what are you going to use it, the gun for? When you say "Punt Gun" I think of "Sneak Skiffs" and "Outlaw Hunters".

They come through RIACo on a regular basis. Probably cheaper than you could get a new barrel made.

For a rifled punt gun, I think I would consider a barrel from one of the 40 mm Bofors barrels. These were made to be readily - and quickly - changeable.

The last punt gun I saw in person was on the Eastern Shore of Cheasapeake Bay. It had a 2" bore, and was roughly 10' long. And yeah, you may have a bit of trouble with the authorities with any other than a display gun.

I am aware that its use is controversial, but industrialtube.com offers true seamless tubing in sizes that would be appropriate for a punt gun barrel. The tube is made by piercing a billet which is then rolled and drawn to the final dimensions. It is not a welded tube that has been drawn for a smooth finish. For example, 2" OD by 1.000 or 1.125 ID.

2 bore would be approximately 1.326", which is actual measurement.
A ball that size in pure lead, of course weighs 8 ounces.
In Canada it would be a prohibited firearm.
In the States, probably not a firearm at all, being a muzzleloader.

You do right to find a barrel, either old or new, first, as the barrel length and weight determines the punt.
A good few were made of high end hydraulic tubing back home, sleeved with the same over the breech.

A mate and myself made a small gun in this manner in four bore. I seem to recall it was only about a four foot barrel.

Speaking of which, I noticed that your initial post here coincides with the date of their latest punt gun video, and on the off-chance that your question was inspired by their zombie-blasting, I'd like to observe that apart from the length and size of the bore, their punt gun is not a particularly good representation of original punt guns nor are they employing it in any way close to the actual design role of a punt gun. If you want to do what they are doing on a more manageable scale, you might want to look into wall guns, also called rampart guns or (in the East) jingals. Wall guns are essentially super-sized muskets (or rifles, in a few cases) that were used for defending fortifications, straddling the line between a shoulder arm and an artillery piece, and firing either shot or ball as the occasion demanded. If you are interested in historical accuracy, you might find them more versatile than a true punt gun, and even if you aren't it might be easier to find information - I know that a couple people on the forum here have made a wall gun at one point or another.

Yes a presentable bank gun can be in four to two bore.
They do need a barrel over four feet to handle the charge well though.
