Cuttoe (?)

Not sure where exactly to post this, but here it is.
Lately I've seen articles where 18thC style folding knives were referred to as "cuttoes".

My understanding --for a good long while at least-- was that a cuttoe is a short sword or big knife--similar to the European hunting swords of the 18thC. Sort of an Anglicized version of the French "couteau de chasse."
So a folding knife --also called a jack knife, pocket knife, spring knife, clasp knife, etc-- is now also called a cuttoe?
Did I miss something?
Please enlighten me.

The word "cuttoe" comes from the French word for knife.  In French, it does not refer to any particular type of knife.  For what it's worth....
