Shaping the forestock
« on: January 28, 2024, 12:16:58 AM »
...is probably the most terrifying part of this build.
Took off a lot wood, going "This is about as thin as I dare", stuck the barrel back in and went "Oh, still not even halfway".

It is best to leave the barrel in the stock as long as possible while shaping.  Those 1/16" thick barrel channel sidewalls need the support.

Take off as much wood as you dare. Then take off a little bit more. Once you realize that you took too much off and ruined the whole thing, you are getting close. I usually end up a little bit less then 1/16 inch on the fore end.

Yeah, sounds about right. Need to re-watch some of your videos.

Yeah….your post brought back some memories…..it’s like you’re getting to “YIKES” territory!!  Listen to the above advice. You’ll be fine.

I remember Frank House telling me, "Take off enough wood so you think you've ruined it, then take some more off"!

Pretty near identical to what Bill Raby here says!
