Iron nitrate on ash

Howdy!
I'm about to start finishing a (somewhat) curly ash stock.  Are there any differences between using it on ash as opposed to maple? Anyone have any favorite stains for ash?

I stocked a pistol in figured ash a few years ago, and stained it the same way I do furniture: a dilute solution of tannic acid followed by fuming with ammonia.  It came out rather nice.

No difference really. I really like how iron nitrate colors ash.

This was just one application of iron nitrate then heat. In hindsight I would have preferred to do another coat to make it darker.

Here's a couple that were stained with LMF nut brown. The pores were filled with ebony wood filler then stained.

Haven't ever seen curly ash.  The combo of your stains really does make it look like checkering!

Mine turned out rather dark. Try mixing the Iron Nitrate weak and use multiple coats to sneak up on it.
