Buttplate thickness and Wrist thickness
« on: February 29, 2024, 02:00:03 AM »
I think I may have gone to skinny on my simple NW Trade style of buttplate. I made it 1.3" wide (this is for a youth size rifle) and when I calculate what the wrist width should be it's (7/8" +.250)= 1.125".

So essentially the stock width won't change from the wrist to the BP. The stock will be a NW Trade gun style so the wrist will "flow" long and the cheek piece will taper.

To thin on the BP?  If you think so, now is my time to change it. The brass won't go to waste and it doesn't take much time to make a Trade Gun BP.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Thanks Mike. No need to respond to this. (I know you're a busy guy....I'm retired). I figured it out and am making a new buttplate.

I don't know what I was thinking the first time around.   ::)
