sight opinions

I went to the range with the inverted T target to try a .050 aperture I just bought. I used tape to make the T that was 1&3/4
" wide and it is good, but 2 inches would be better. The sun was off and on and I had about 4 seconds before the sight would fuzz up on me. The first two were about a half inch left of where I wanted them on top of each other, and then the next four zig-zagged right and low. I forgot I only had 6 balls in my range box so I had to quit. I'd have swabbed the bore and done some more testing, otherwise. I'll have to get back at it in about a week. By then the sights I ordered for the 54 should be delivered and I'll get them on.

I received the higher rear sight and a new front sight and installed them. There was rust under the old sights of my "new" rifle which is only a couple of months old. I put vaseline in the sight cuts before putting in the new ones. I will use a light penetrating oil to lube them when cleaning the rifle from now on. Re-sight in when it warms back up.

When the need to move my group, I always use: FORS. Front Opposite / Rear Same. Jerry

My range day yesterday revealed that I need to reinstall the original filed down front sight as the combination of the new higher rear sight and a new front sight had me filing again. As it was I had a senior moment in that I had the original sight with me at the range but thought I had to go home for it. In terms of adjusting the windage, I think of it as if I need to move the impact left I move the rear sight that way then the bore must be swung left to meet the adjusted rear. Always good advice here.
