Howdy!

This is my first post here and glad to be a member.  I’d like to start by saying I attended the Tennessee Kentucky rifle show in Knoxville today and got to meet some good folks I had only read about before.  It was a great show!

My question concerns a .62 caliber Chambers smooth rifle with a Getz barrel.  I bought this gun used a few years ago and the previous owner didn’t know who built it or did the engraving on the side plate.  I do not wish to sell this gun and am not looking for a value.  I would only like to know who built it or did the engraving.

Thank you.

The engraving and carving were likely done by different people. There’s a chance that Mike Brooks engraved the side plate, but the carving is not similar to anything he’s done that I’ve seen.

Not my engraving. Mine is much bolder and cut deeper than most folks cut. Bruce Le Page showed me the ropes with engraving, and I absorbed his deep engraving technique.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I noticed that and wondered about it.  Someone may have tried to copy your work?

Thanks for the reply.
