James Shackelford Rifles?
« on: April 10, 2024, 02:23:57 PM »
Was scrolling thru a list of Kentucky soldiers in the War of 1812, and came across this one in Central Kentucky.  Is he a known builder?
Might be spelled Shackleford.

SHACKELFORD, JAMES. Casey County.
"This veteran of the War of 1812 died recently at his Casey County home, at the advanced age of 99 years.
He was the maker of the celebrated Shackelford rifle, a rifle that for years has been the pride of this portion of the country.
The last rifle that he made was when he was 96 years old, and it is said to be a marvel both of beauty and excellency."

Kentucky Gazette, 13 Dec. 1879.
