About when did English gun makers begin to build half stocked fowlers and rifles?

Hi,
Half stocked English guns go back to the 17th century but they were not the norm and rare.  Half stocked sporting guns started to become fashionable during the 1760s and then became very common after the 1780s.

The combination of a half stock and a hooked breech made breaking down a fowler to carry in a coach much easier. The class of people who bought fowlers did, as a rule, travel in wagons.

This is a silver mounted half stock of about 1725-30 that was restocked in the last quarter of the 18th century bwith a lock by Ketland.
