Replica 16th Century ‘Landsknecht’ Snap Matchlocks announced!

Wow, are these exciting times lately for those of us that like the EARLY BP arms, or what?

First Brixia comes out and offers a fishtailed stock matchlock ...



Then shows us their Snaphaunce with an amazing early stock ...



And then shows off what looks something like a Petronel, but they call it their Spanish butt matchlock arquebus, with peep sight ...



... and now here we have a true 16th century Landsknecht snapping matchlock arquebus! But I wonder who is making them? FYI, Cap'NBall announced it on his Facebook channel as the "1st batch of commercially available arms".

FYI, the Landsknecht was announced yesterday or 31March, so this is not an April Fool’s joke. Besides, here’s 5 of them in a photo.

Quite an exciting development! I love the snapping matchlock. I was very interested to hear in Capandball's video that patched balls were confirmed to be historically accurate for them. The architectural look of the stock is fascinating, too!

Those look really neat, especially that snapping matchlock.  Are these Italian made?  The reason I ask is because I wonder if they have the typical Italian "billboard"  all over the top of the barrel?

Interesting to see Flint, and that specific snapping lock is one I always wanted to make.

Yes Snowmoon, they were not backwards when it came to loading these old guns.

Brixia (Italy) is not making them … at this point, we have no idea who is making them or if they will be available in the US .

This is the ‘Landsknecht’ that I have, Brian Anderson made it for me, but sadly he had to retire due to his health. The ignition is soooooo FAST that one time at the range there was an 8” gong set out at 50-yards. Six people shot it, 3 who have never fired any black powder firearm and  all 6 hit the gong.

I use ‘birch polypore’ as my tinder … no cordage! Pukka inspires me … !

I use horse hoof fungus in a similar manner. The light layer under the outside shell is boiled in ashes and water, and then pounded out flat. This can then be rolled into what looks like cord but is more like a thin long cigar. It burns well and very hot.
