Whoa, nice deer. A great challenge to get a mature buck as that. Good going.

An excellent buck - especially with a flintlock.  Was that shot taken in September, and are you guys allowed to hunt right in town?

He was shot the last week of our rifle season in December.
The picture was taken in my back yard, not where he was shot.
He was taken  along the top of the Blue Mountain in central Pa.

The rifle is an early Reading. I used #21&22 in Shumway's RCA  as a guide.
Stocked in cherry .62 cal 44in barrel , Davis Germanic lock

One shot about 70 yards he was Quartering away, You can see the entrance hole in the pix exit is tight behind the opposite shoulder.  He trotted about 30 yds and stood there like I never touched him so now I'm dumpen powder and ramming another ball and about the time I'm seating the ball he gets all wobbly and falls over dead. Had me worried there for a little ; ;D

Nice buck! Can only imagine what this guy was like in his prime! probably a 10 or 12 pointer. Most likely his last winter. Nice shootin'.

A nice 3 pointer, for sure .

Now around here, they count the brow tine which would make that a 4 point.

Counting the borw tine would make what used to be a normal mature 4 point trophy buck, a 5 pointer today - or 10 by eastern count of course.

A 3 point buck (4 counting the brow tine), LB, s'far as I know, is always a 3 pointer (4) & never grows a 4th (or 5th) tine. Same in Mule deer.

Congratulations, D. Bowman - he's a nice one for any gun and especially with a flinter.

That's a buck to be proud of. Congratulations! I'm glad to see you bagged that grand old buck, instead of it dying eventually of old age, predation, or starvation. And that's a very good-looking rifle as well.

Brow tines on a muley don't count. Not sure about Whities. I never count it.
