Buff Horn W/Screw In Finial

  It is 15 1/4" around the outside curve and 11 1/4 tip-to-tip. The butt is Walnut, held in by 4 wooden pegs, threaded for the finial which is Hickory, it is 3" in diameter. The tip is made up of two pieces of Whitetail antler, pinned together with 3 wooden pegs and to the horn with 3 more. A staple is at the neck as a strap keeper.
 This horn is so Black it is almost Blue.

Very cool horn Tim.  I know you dislike working with bison horn, but that came out really cool.  The screw-out base plug is an added bonus.

It pleases me greatly to see it finished up so nicely!  I'm fortunate to have a local farmer raising this fantastic creatures.  He sells me rib steaks at the farmer's market here on Saturday mornings.

Personally, I have never seen the advantage of that screw in finial.  I have always figured you fill the horn the opposite way you empty the horn - through the tip.  But, that's just me.  I used to make horns for one of the major distributors and they wanted that threaded finial thing.  What a PITA that was.  I was kinda glad when they stopped ordering them.  I guess that was back in the mid 1980's or so.
