Bronze barrel
« on: September 10, 2024, 02:08:39 AM »
I recently required a pistol that has a bronze barrel. I have, for years shot and cleaned rifles with steel barrels. Is there anything special needed for the cleaning, care and longterm storage of a bronze barrel? Thank you in advance,
Cheers, Doug T.

A good  room temp water flush=\swabbing then dry and oil  should do it I would think. :-\

Great question! It's something you really don't think about until someone asks it.

I wonder if the barrel make up would even matter as, according to Bill Knight ( Mad Monk ) the water will disolve all that is bad\corrosive in the black powder or its fouling.   :-\

If memory serves (Ha! that's a long shot for me ::)) nothing with ammonia as it will cause corrosion in copper alloys. I would go with the advice already given and use a water flush.

Carl

WHAT!!! In the world would you be thinking while you’re putting ammonia down your barrel? That is just nuts.

Never used them, but don't some Windex products contain ammonia?

Can't say. I use water only.

I have heard of several people who use Windex \ ammonia with good results but I'm curious if they flush with water afterwords. So if they do flush with water after the Windex, why not just use water in the first place.  :-\   :-\
