Drial H. Gibbs & George W. Gibbs
« on: September 13, 2024, 09:23:17 PM »

Wayne County Herald, August 18, 1840.

The Portsmouth Inquirer, September 2, 1850.

Anyone have more examples of their work? I've seen one with "DH & GW GIBBS" on the sideplate and another with just "DH GIBBS" that likely therefore is an 1840s rifle. It is unclear to me if these were actually made by them or just sold through their shop. The barrels of both were not signed, just the brass side plates.

85 dollars was not a small sum in 1840.  I bet that was a nice piece.

I had a J Gibbs, but don't know where he would fit in. Or if it would?

I'm not sure if J. Gibbs was related or not. It took me a while to find these two. I found multiple G.W. Gibbs in the period in Pennsylvania, but D.H. was trickier to find. Finding the dissolution of the partnership really helped figure out who they were, but even then, I didn't find a whole ton about them.
