Beaded Knife Sheaths
« on: January 05, 2024, 11:35:00 PM »
After seeing the posting from MeliusCreekTrapper's beaded knife sheath I thought I would show several knife sheaths that I have done.  These are beaded using number 10 and 11 Old Italian seed beads.  These have an inner case of rawhide and deerskin outer covers.

Beautiful work Polecat. That dark red and the pink are outstanding color choices.
Is that on commercial tanned deerskin? I gave up beading on that. Braintan is so much nicer.

Thank you MCT, The Pink (white lined pink), and the red is Corniola D (white lined red). All is beaded on commercial tanned deer or elk.  I have a bunch of it that I got when my father passed. I haven't got any suppliers of brain tanned hides to get back with me and I am to lazy to brain tan anymore.
I did get one of the Crazy Crow German Tan Buckskin and that is a lot nicer to bead.

The German tanned leather is easy to sew. The piece I received was a little thinner than chrome tanned as I believe it is split.

All of these are fine, but it is nice to see some applique work, which doesn't seem very common these days. You must have very good parience.

Thank you all for the compliments.
I do like doing the applique beadwork. It does take a lot longer but I think the results are worth the time.

Thank you guys. It is a good pass time for me.  Cheaper that making guns and takes up less room.

Absolutely beautiful work. I have one of the original first 10 Staple knives made for the movie “Quigley Down Under” the larger belt knife that Tom Selleck wore on his belt. It belonged to ( one of 2) Staple who donated it to the Predator hunting club, that we were both members of 20 or so years ago. I’ve always wanted to find someone to bead a sheath for that knife, so I could carry it and use it. To me the enjoyment is showing it off, and putting it to use.
