Siler double set single phase trigger
« on: January 07, 2025, 04:59:44 AM »
I have a rifle that has a Siler double set single phase trigger. I would like to change it to a double set double phase trigger. Has anyone made this switch and what commercially available trigger assembly did you use? Thanks

Hi Tak,

I've never made that switch but I have a suggestion.  If you have or can find a copy of a Track of the Wolf printed catalog, it has life size photos of many triggers.  I would compare trigger blade lengths and their location and make sure the new trigger bar was long enough and wide enough to fill your existing inlet.  Good luck!

Does the lock have a "fly" to slide the sear cross the half cocked notch in the tumbler and does the trigger have to be "set" before the lock can be cocked? There may be more involved than a simple trigger swap.

My first long rifle had a double set, single throw trigger. I queried trackofthewolf catalog and picked a double set, double throw trigger and installed it. It was not difficult.

I do have an old Track catalog to compare triggers. The lock is a Siler percussion mountain lock. I have to set the trigger for the lock to hold half and full cock. Thanks for the suggestions.

Siler triggers? Don't think I've ever heard of them.

They are on Chambers' website.

https://www.flintlocks.com/parts.htm

Depending on how much room there is between the vertical posts, it might be possible to braze a bar onto the side of the front trigger.

The front trigger bar is mostly there to help you when you want to let the cock back down from full cock to half cock or rest positions. It gives you a convenient way to lift the sear while you are moving the cock. A lot of people have written that it gives you the option of firing with the front trigger, and technically, it does. But I'd think that to be very, very rare. My point is to say that the front trigger bar normally doesn't take much punching.

Tak, Chambers also sells a Davis double set trigger on the same webpage. It's a double bar trigger. It might fit just fine, if you change out the entire assembly. Would have to use the whole thing. Might need to trim down the front of the Davis trigger plate a little.

My next step after the Track catalog will be to call Chambers locks.
